Writers from ten countries to participate in Belarusian Written Language Day roundtable

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Writers from ten countries will travel to Ivanovo District, Brest Oblast in early September in order to participate in a roundtable session timed to the Belarusian Written Language Day, representatives of the Belarusian Information Ministry told BelTA.

Writers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, USA, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine intend to visit Ivanovo District this year. The roundtable session on fiction as a way to foster understanding will take place in the Napoleon Orda Museum in the village of Vorotsevichi. The first roundtable session of the kind took place in September 2007. Since then the Belarusian Written Language Day has been bringing together writers from different countries every year for discussing how fiction can unite the desire of different nations for peace and mutual understanding, for perceiving the destiny of different countries.

Since 2007 the event has welcomed writers from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, Moldova, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Montenegro, and other countries. Writers from various parts of Russia have been particularly active. “Solid international literature ties have been established over the years. They have resulted in translations of Belarusian poetry and prose into other languages. In particular, the books have been published in Ashgabat, Baku, Grozny, Dushanbe, Yerevan, Kazan, Moscow, and Elista. The poets Chingiz Alioglu (Azerbaijan) and Edvard Militonyan (Armenia) have been awarded Francysk Skaryna medals,” said representatives of the Belarusian Information Ministry.

The roundtable session has been organized by the Belarusian Information Ministry, the Brest Oblast administration, the Ivanovo District administration, the Union of Writers of Belarus, the publishing house Zvyazda, and the publishing house Khudozhestvennaya Literatura.

The 25th Belarusian Written Language Day will take place in Ivanovo on 2 September and will be dedicated to the theme My Native Land.
