Vitebsk to host international Paralympics festival

VITEBSK, 24 April (BelTA) – The Paralympics festival No Borders in Sport - Vitebsk Oblast 2018 will gather about 100 participants from Belarus and Russia in Vitebsk on 24 April, BelTA learned from head of the Department for Medical Rehabilitation and Physical Education at the Vitebsk State Medical University Tatiana Olenskaya.

The program of the forum will include a national conference, Paralympic sport in the concept of medical and social rehabilitation and integration, and the first national sports festival of mutual integration featuring Belarusian and Russian athletes with disabilities, students of the Vitebsk Medical University. The major topics for discussion will include the organization of disabled sports in Belarus, aspects of inclusive and integration processes in the society.

During the festival the Vitebsk Oblast authorities are set to meet with the champions, prize-winners and participants of the XII Paralympic Games in PyeongChang. Athletes will share their impressions of the recent competitions. Specialists will touch upon the aspects of training, medical and social rehabilitation of athletes, the peculiarities of the organization of disabled sports among children with cerebral palsy. They will also talk over the sports volunteer movement in the Vitebsk State Medical University and issues related to conducting competitions among people with hearing disorders.

The festival will be held as part of the national plan of action to implement the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for 2017-2025 in Belarus and further assistance to the development of inclusive and integration processes in the society. The forum is organized by the Vitebsk State Medical University and the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee.
