On August 27 - 28 the first festival “In memory of Nicolas Nabokov” will be held in the Mir Castle and Lyubcha town. The event is initiated by the National Commission of Belarus for UNESCO and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
Nicholas Nabokov was a native of Lyubcha, a cousin of a novelist Vladimir Nabokov, a kinsman of Sviatopolk-Mirskis’, who owned the Mir Castle until 1939, and a world-known composer, an author of the first American ballet, as well as music for ballets in Sergei Diaghilev's “Russian Seasons” and George Balanchine’s Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. He composed a number of oratorios, symphonies and piano pieces.
Nabokov concerts performed by outstanding Belarusian musicians and the screening of the movies devoted to the composer’s life and creative work will be presented during the festival.
Special guests are invited to participate in the festival – among them Princesses Irene Antoinette Stanislaus and Maria Sviatopolk-Mirskis, the direct descendants of Sviatopolk-Mirskis’, and a daughter of Irene Antoinette Olivia Furtwangler.
The festival is expected to become a tradition.
