Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra to perform at Yuri Bashmet Festival in Minsk

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) - Camerata Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam will perform at the Yuri Bashmet International Festival in Minsk on 4 October, BelTA has learned.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is a symphony orchestra of the Netherlands, based at the Royal Concertgebouw (concert hall) in Amsterdam. This legendary orchestra is the first in the Top 20 compiled by the most respectable music magazine Grammophone every year. For comparison, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra is the second in this list, Vienna orchestra third. In 2013 the Top 20 included the Mariinsky Theater orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev and the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev, that finished the 14th and 15th respectively.

Camerata Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, that will perform in Minsk, is a chamber orchestra consisting exclusively of the artists of this world-famous orchestra. The orchestra has the best musicians from different countries and performs only in the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world.

The famous orchestra, which is scheduled to give a concert in Amsterdam the day before the Minsk concert, canceled the day-off in order to take part in the Bashmet festival in Minsk. On 5 October (the day after the concert in the capital of Belarus) they will perform at their home ground at the Concertgebouw. The concert at the Belarusian State Philharmonic will begin at 8:0pm.

The concert will feature Alexei Ogrintchouk, one of the most prominent contemporary oboists. Alexei Ogrintchouk manages to combine orchestral playing (he has been solo oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since 2005) with his ever-increasing solo engagements.

In Minsk the royal orchestra will perform Vincenzo Bellini's Oboe Concerto, Mozart’s Symphony No. 24 and other musical masterpieces.

First held in 2006, the festival is conducted under the auspices of the Belarusian President and is aimed at combining the creative forces of Belarus, Russia and other countries. The festival brings together outstanding artists of our time. Thanks to the festival young talented musicians have the opportunity to perform together with world famous artists on one stage. The author of the idea of the Yuri Bashmet festival is the Belarusian pianist, winner of international competitions, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London Rostislav Krimer, who is also the arts director of the festival. People's Artist of Russia, winner of the state prizes of the USSR and Russia Yuri Bashmet is the honorary co-chairman of the organizing committee of the festival.
