Nina Ananiashvili at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of BelarusMINSK, 24 October (BelTA) - Nina Ananiashvili, the outstanding ballerina, artistic director of the ballet company of the Tbilisi Z. Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Theater, will stage the ballet Laurencia to music by Alexander Krein. The first-night performance at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus is scheduled for October 2014, BelTA learned from the theater.

“This is going to be an exclusive production. There is no such production either in Tbilisi or in St. Petersburg. The ballet will be based on the original choreography by the renowned choreographer, People's Artist of the Soviet Union Vakhtang Chabukiani. In its time the ballet was an absolute masterpiece. In Chabukiani’s choreography the ballet was a total hit. It was staged by all major theaters of the Soviet Union,” the theater said.

The plot of the Minsk Laurencia will remain unchanged. It will be based on Lope de Vega's Fuente Ovejuna.

“The new production will retain all the dances this ballet is famous for. This will be a big bright and passionate classic production that will become a beautiful addition to our repertoire,” said the theater, adding that the leading soloists will be engaged in this production.

Nina Ananiashvili and stage designer David Monavardisashvili have already presented the Laurencia concept at the Bolshoi Theater. The costume designer in the new play will be Alexandre Vassiliev, a fashion historian collector, interior decorator, stage designer, author of popular books and articles, TV presenter, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
