Minsk to welcome international festival TEART on 2-20 October

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – The International Forum of Theater Arts TEART will be held in Minsk on 2-20 October, BelTA learnt from the organizers.

This year the Belarusian audience will get acquainted with the art of Italian director Romeo Castellucci, the recognized leader of the modern European theater art, the holder of the most prestigious international prizes and awards. The contemporary Polish theater will be represented by “Persona. Marilyn” produced by Krystian Lupa and ballet performances of the Poznan dance theater. Minsk theater goers will also see the best performances of 2010 by Lithuania and Latvia: the Latvian National Theater will show “Dead Souls” staged by one of the most brilliant and popular directors of Russia Kirill Serebrennikov and “The Lower Depths” directed by Lithuanian Oskaras Korsunovas, who the Belarusian audience is already familiar with.

The playbill of the festival also features the latest premiere by Oskaras Korsunovas “Miranda" based on Shakespeare’s Storm. Russian Theater of Estonia will premiere the performance "One Summer Night in Sweden" dedicated to great filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky.

The youth off-program will feature the works of young producers representing theater schools and traditions of different countries.

The program of the forum will include a theater project “Best Russian Plays – Golden Mask Nominees and Prizewinners”. It will include The Umbrellas of Cherbourg musical by Saint Petersburg Theater Karambol (producer Vasily Barkhatov), The Tie Lasts a Glimpse by the Russian Academic Youth Theater (producer Mindaugas Karbauskis) and Theater.doc’s Light my Fire that has recently become extremely popular among theater goers.

The forum will wrap up with the premiere The Shallop of Despair after Vladimir Korotkevich’s namesake novel. The play was staged in cooperation with the Culture Ministry of Belarus.

According to the organizers of the forum, there will be an opportunity to meet their authors, partake in master-classes of well-known theater producers.

The organizer of the International Forum of Theater Arts TEART is the Center of the Visual and Performing Arts whose mission is to improve the status and enhance the image of Belarus in the world, to carry out cultural and educational activities in the field of cinema, theater and the visual arts. The festival is supported by the Culture Ministry of the Republic of Belarus. The General Partner is Belgazprombank.
