Minsk to host first conference of Belarus’ honorary consuls 3 October

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – The first conference of Belarus’ honorary consuls will take place in the Belarusian capital on 3 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The upcoming conference is designed to evaluate the performance of honorary consuls and discuss promising avenues of their work to protect our national interests. Special focus will be put on foreign trade and the attraction of foreign investment,” the press service noted.

The honorary consuls are expected to meet with top members of the Belarusian government, top officials of ministries, government bodies and agencies, and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They are set to visit the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone, the automobile engineering company BelAZ, and the agricultural farm Dzerzhynsky. “The honorary consuls will get familiarized with the exhibition of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War and visit the memorial complex Mound of Glory, the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater, and the Belarusian State Circus. All this will help increase the efficiency of the consuls’ effort to distribute information about Belarus and develop cultural and humanitarian cooperation,” the press service said.

The conference will last till 6 October 2017.

Today 80 Belarusian honorary consuls represent and protect the rights and interests of Belarus’ citizens in 56 countries. Their other tasks are to advance friendly relations, expand political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, scientific, and other ties with foreign states. Consular districts of Belarusian honorary consuls usually comprise industrial and financial centers. Meanwhile, the honorary consuls get well-deserved recognition among politicians and businessmen.
