Exhibition in tribute to the memory of Hugo Chavez opens in Minsk

Exhibition to the memory of Hugo Chavez in MinskMINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The photo exhibition Five Years – Five Visits in tribute to the memory of former President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela opened at the Rakurs Gallery of the National Library of Belarus on 27 February, BelTA has leant.

The event is being held as part of the international campaign In the Footsteps of Hugo Chavez dedicated to the first anniversary of the death of Venezuela's President. The exhibition features the photos of the president attending Belarusian enterprises, educational and cultural establishments during his visits to Belarus.

“The photos presented at the exhibition reflect not only some particular events but also the spirit of friendship between the two countries. With this event we are paying tribute to the memory of Hugo Chavez. We dedicate it to the friendship between our two countries that, we hope, will continue to develop,” Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Venezuela to Belarus Americo Diaz Nunez said.

Exhibition to the memory of Hugo Chavez in Minsk“This hall itself gives me emotions as it reminds me of the meeting between Hugo Chavez and Alexander Lukashenko that was held here a few years ago. Here we were welcoming Hugo Chavez, with the dance group from the Simon Bolivar Latin American Cultural Center performing the national Venezuela dance Joropo. Here, in this hall, we presented Hugo Chavez his portrait by a Belarusian artist,” the Ambassador said.

During the solemn opening ceremony of the exhibition the winners of the Chavez in Belarus children’s drawing competition were awarded prizes. Partaking in the competition were 4th-7th year school children who study Spanish.

The exhibition will stay open until 23 March.
