Belarusian cardiologists to use more nanosized diamonds

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Plans have been made to use more nanosized diamonds in cardiology in Belarus. Promising projects in this sphere will be discussed during the international conference on coherent and non-linear optics, lasers, and relevant applications and technologies ICONO/LAT 2016, BelTA learned from Sergei Kilin, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The conference is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 26-30 September.

The official said that using nano diamonds for magnetic measurements will be discussed during the conference. “I am talking about cardiographs shaped virtually as an optic fiber. They can measure the heart’s magnetic activity for diagnostic purposes,” said Sergei Kilin. In his words, nano and quantum technologies allow scientists to carry out research at the cellular level.

Using quantum qualities of light and atoms to create new equipment and technologies will be discussed during the conference as well. “I am talking about using diamonds for quantum computers. Topological states of light can be used as a biosensor. Future belongs to this kind of R&D effort,” added the Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

In turn, Sergei Bagayev, Director of the Laser Physics Institute in the Siberian division of the Russian Academy of Sciences, noted that optical cryptography had evolved as a new branch of science based on quantum optics and laser physics. In his words, Belarus is one of the world’s leaders in this field. “We can make cryptographic quantum communication lines that span long distances — over 100km. Such lines are very important from the point of view of national security. Many countries of the world do it,” he stressed.

The ICONO/LAT 2016 conference is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 26-30 September. It has been organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Moscow State University. Representatives of top laser research centers from 15 European, American, and Asian countries are taking part in the conference. Participants of the forum are expected to discuss state-of-the-art accomplishments with regard to laser physics, quantum optics and atomic-scale optics, non-linear dynamics of optical systems, optics of nanosized structures, optical diagnostics and data processing. The conference will allow sharing scientific accomplishments and ideas. It will contribute to mutually beneficial international cooperation in research and development. It will help coordinate fundamental and applied research.
