Belarus Remembers march on Victory Day in Minsk

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – Belarus Remembers march will make part of the Victory Day celebrations in Minsk for the first time, Belarus’ First Deputy Culture Minister Irina Driga told a press conference, BelTA has learned.

The celebrations will begin in the run-up of the 71st anniversary of Great Victory but the main celebrations will be held on 9 May, Irina Driga said. According to her, the Belarus Remembers march will debut in the morning. People holding portraits of their relatives who died during the Great Patriotic War will walk through Independence Avenue, adjacent streets, towards Victory Square.

Then flowers will be laid at Victory Monument in Victory Square. In the evening the square will host a concert of the President’s Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus.

The Victory Day celebrations will start with a solemn meeting and concert at the Palace of the Republic on 6 May. According to Irina Driga, it is a traditional event. The concert will feature wartime and post-war poems and songs.

One of the main events which is to take place near the Palace of Sport on 7 May will be a concert of USSR People’s Artist Iosif Kobson and prize-winners of the Crystal Stars competition.

On 8 May the Palace of Sports will host the events of the nationwide campaign The Flowers of Great Victory. The program will include the same-name interactive exposition featuring thematic platforms, presentations, mobile museum expositions and also a DJs Battle.
