12-year trombonist to open Jazz Evenings in Minsk

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Performance by a 12-year trombonist Ilya Kiselev will open the Jazz Evenings with Bank BelVEB festival in Minsk, the organizers of the festival said at a press conference, BelTA has learned.

According to festival’s director Andrei Kalina, it has already become a tradition to invite young talents to take part in Jazz Evenings. The festival will open on 23 June with a concert featuring Ilya Kiselev, a talented trombonist who has his own signature style. The boy lives in the village of Krasnaya Sloboda, Soligorsk District.

Each festival day – 23 June, 30 June and 7 July – will have its own theme - Latin American Jazz, Traditions and Modernity, and Some Like it Hot.

First Deputy Head of the Directorate General for Ideology, Culture and Youth of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vitalina Rudikova noted that Jazz Evenings with Bank BelVEB is a remarkable and interesting project. Every year the festival offers a diverse program featuring both professionals and young hopefuls.

Performing at the festival will be musicians from Belarus, the United States, Germany, Brazil, France, Israel, Cuba and Russia. The headliners include jazz stars like Alex Sipiagin from Mingus Big Band (USA), SWR Big Band soloist Claus Reichstaller (Germany), Camelia Ben Naceur from Billy Cobham Band (France), Jonah Levine Collective (USA), and many more.

The Belarusian jazz stars headlining the festival include Premier Orchestra, Pavel Orlov’s Quartet, Lu Krukovskaya Project, Eugenia Letun’s jazz trio, Belarus-born saxophonist Aleksei Losh Malakhov who has made a name for his virtuous performance on the European stage.

The entry is free.

The festival is arranged by the Minsk City Executive Committee and the 4A Event concert agency. Bank BelVEB is the general partner.
