What was new in February 2018? What were the biggest events for Belarus and who were the newsmakers?

Throughout February 2018, the international community, including Belarus, was watching closely the biggest winter sports event of the last four years – the PyeongChang Olympics. The Games saw harsh weather, tough competitions, remarkable triumphs, big debuts, athletes crying happy tears and thanking their coaches and fans. All these things truly inspired Belarusians and made them feel proud for their Olympic athletes.

Belarus took 15th place in the overall standings thanks to Anna Guskova, Nadezhda Skardino, Irina Krivko, Dinara Alimbekova, and Darya Domracheva, the first female biathlete to win four Olympic gold medals. These names have already made part of Belarus’ sports history to become an example to follow for future generations.

Some other events came into the spotlight in Belarus in February: tough 2018 Fed Cup Belarus-Germany quarterfinal, the first ever tractor biathlon tournament, the Internationalist Soldiers Remembrance Day, rallies and military parades to mark the Defender of the Fatherland Day, a Depeche Mode concert, and a cheerleading tournament.
