Catholic Christmas celebrations in Belarus

Catholic Christmas celebrations in Belarus
24 Dec 2017

The Belarusian Catholics celebrated Christmas, one of the main Christian holidays, on the night of 24 to 25 December. Warmth in the hearts, focused looks of adult believers and smiles on children's faces … The blessed Christmas night was shrouded in the atmosphere of miracle.

It has been 18 years since Belarus first welcomed the Peace Light lit from the Lampion of the Bethlehem Basilica of the Nativity of Christ. This tradition begun in Europe in 1986. The Bethlehem light, the symbol of a kind heart, love and faith that you want to share with your loved ones, arrived in Belarus accompanied by Catholic scouts on 19 December. The light was first delivered to the Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier in Grodno and then shared across Belarus.
