10 Nov 2017

The forthcoming weekend in Minsk promises to be very eventful. The Belarusian capital is gearing up to host the Fed Cup World Group final, the biggest women’s team competitions organized by the International Tennis Federation. The tournament is called the unofficial world tennis championship. The Belarusians, who have made their maiden Fed Cup final, will compete for the champion title against the United States that have won the tournament 17 times!

The Fed Cup final between Belarus and the United States will take place at Chizhovka Arena on 11-12 November. The teams faced each other in the Fed Cup only once. In February 2012 the United States beat Belarus 5-0. The draw for the Fed Cup final took place on 10 November. The matches will be broadcast in 157 countries. Over 120 journalists from 50 mass media outlets around the world have come to Belarus to cover the tournament.

Tennis fans have been given another present ahead of the final. For a couple of hours there was an opportunity to see and make a selfie with the Fed Cup trophy near Minsk Town Hall. The Fed Cup trophy was delivered from London. The game will show whether the trophy is to stay in Minsk.
