9 Sep 2018

The Minsk City Day celebrations continued on 9 September with the Fourth Minsk Half Marathon. Starting early morning the center of the Belarusian capital began to turn into a huge sports arena: coaches, runners, fans ... This year’s event featured about 35,000 professional athletes and amateurs from 53 countries (the oldest participant was 52, and the youngest was 23).

The 21.1km race kicked off near the Palace of Sports. Sheila Jerotich from Kenya showed the best time (which was a surprise for fans of the 2018 European marathon winner Volha Mazuronak). Svetlana Kudelich was second to cross the finish line. Abebe Negewo Degefa from Ethiopia won the men’s race. The competition was followed by the 10.5km race and the most massive 5.5km race. Among its participants there were also star guests: Nadezhda Skardino (biathlon), Sergei Dolidovich (cross-country), Alexander Bogdanovich (canoe) and Dmitry Dashchinsky (aerials). The marathon also featured the Dream Team, Angels' Wings, representatives of universities, ministries and departments, representatives of the Directorate of the 2nd European Games and Darya Domracheva's team.
