Prince Michael of Kent visits Belarus
11 Oct 2016

Prince Michael of Kent, a member of the British Royal Family, businessman and investor, philanthropist and patron of the arts, has recently paid a visit to Belarus. The program of the visit included official and business meetings and numerous events to learn more about the country.

The multiple-day visit kicked off with a meeting with the Belarusian head of state: Alexander Lukashenko and Prince Michael of Kent discussed the Belarusian-UK relations and the ways to intensify mutually beneficial contacts. Addressing the guest, the President noted:

"Frankly speaking, the United Kingdom, perhaps, was not very much interested in the situation in Belarus, and, most likely, followed the policy of Brussels. I hope your visit will open a new page in our relations, and you will convey the information about Belarus to the politicians and businessmen who show an interest in Belarus... We strongly hope that our relations with the United Kingdom will be improving. We have a huge interest in trade… I want you to know that we honestly and sincerely welcome your business in Belarus."

Prince Michael of Kent also held talks with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, Transport and Communications Minister Anatoly Sivak, Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky, and Head of the National Bank Pavel Kallaur. The owner of a consulting company paid a visit to one of Belarus’ brands, Hi-Tech Park, which has European and world's biggest firms among its resident companies.

The Prince of Kent visited many Belarusian landmarks around Belarus to learn more about the Belarusian history and culture, as well as the country’s national wealth. Prince Michael of Kent went to see the Khatyn Memorial, a symbol of the tragedy of the Belarusian people, and also one of the world’s biggest museums of the Great Patriotic War, the National Art Museum and the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus.
