Japanese Autumn in Belarus 2018

Japanese Autumn in Belarus 2018
23 Sep 2018

The Japanese Autumn in Belarus festival has brought together lovers of traditional and contemporary culture of the Land of the Rising Sun for the sixth time. This year four Belarusian cities (Minsk, Grodno, Gomel and Borisov) are hosting the festival. The solemn opening ceremony of the three-month festival took place at the National Art Museum of Belarus on 21 September. It was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Belarus Hiroki Tokunaga. Admirers of the Oriental art enjoyed the exhibition “Photos and materials: Japanese graphic art of the 1970s” featuring the works of 14 contemporary artists.

The Japanese Autumn in Belarus 2018 also runs a festival of contemporary East Asian culture. Until last year, it had been known as Higan (equinox in Japanese). It is the first festival that drew together Belarusian fans of comic strips, computer games, street fashion, music and other areas that are popular in East Asian countries. The 13th youth festival features cosplays – a performance art in which participants try to imitate styles and personalities of their characters as closely as possible.
