In the last few decades the Minsk forum reaffirmed its status as one of the largest forums in this field in Eastern Europe. This year it has traditionally combined several large-scale events: the 23rd international specialized expo TIBO 2016, the 2nd robot technology and cutting-edge technology expo, the 23rd Belarusian Congress on Information Society Technologies, and the prestigious annual contest TIBO 2016 Internet Award.
During the opening ceremony Belarusian Information Technologies and Communications Minister Sergei Popkov noted that this year’s TIBO has changed its format noticeably. “In the past it was presented as an exhibition of telecommunication accomplishments. Today it has evolved into an exhibition of information technology development, a demonstration of the steps made in the area of information and communication technologies”…
TIBO 2016 focuses on several areas taking into account priorities of the state policy in the area of information and communication technologies. The national data infrastructure is in the spotlight along with the digital economy, digital government and digital interaction, information and communication technologies for social and cultural applications, the digital transformation strategy, robot technologies, and digital technologies for printing and publishing industries. At present Belarus is ranked 36th in the ITU’s ICT development index and is one of the top 10 most rapidly developing countries. According to Houlin Zhao, the country can demonstrate even higher growth.
Naturally all the captivating things – R&D and technologies that visitors can see and test – are presented at the TIBO 2016 expo in the Football Arena. The development of the digital government in Belarus is in the spotlight. There are quite many corporate novelties as well. The telecommunication infrastructure operator beCloud has deployed a 4.5G network that allows users to access the Internet at speeds of up to 1Gbps. The country’s top mobile carriers invite visitors to appreciate digital signatures on SIM cards (velcom), online television for smartphones, tablet computers, desktop computers and TV sets (MTS). The holding company Horizont presented projects featuring smart public transport stops, smart parking lots and other smart systems, which are designed to save time and resources.
