Georgia festival in the Upper Town

Georgia festival in the Upper Town

A whirlwind of dance and music, famous delicacies such as khinkali, dolma, khachapuri, mtsvadi and red wine… Four years ago the Georgian culture festival Tbilisoba was the first in a string of national culture days that Minskers fell in love with. In 2018 Tbilisoba was held simultaneously with the Georgian Cultural Days (31 August – 2 September).

The scope of the festival held in the Upper Town last weekend was impressive: in honor of the centennial of Georgia’s independence the organizers offered a diverse program with lots of entertainment: a cable railway, a climbing wall, “dances” on longboards and mini-surfing, film screenings, national dishes from the country’s 12 regions, a dance battle between break dancers and Georgian dancers to the accompaniment of the Erisioni and Voices of Georgia companies. A great concert from world-famous jazz singer Nino Katamadze wrapped up the celebrations.

Mayors of the two capitals Andrei Shorets and Kakha Kaladze proposed a toast to the festival and to the Belarusian-Georgian friendship. Andrei Shorets called Tbilisoba in Minsk a unique phenomenon while Kakha Kaladze emphasized that he is always happy to visit Belarus. Ahead of the festival, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia welcomed the dynamic and intensive development of relations between the countries and the contribution of Tblisoba to the friendship between the two nations.
