Day of India in Minsk

Day of India in Minsk
27 Aug 2017

On the last Sunday of August Minsk’s Upper Town looked like a noisy district of Delhi or Mumbai as the Belarusian capital celebrated the Day of India. The holiday was part of the kaleidoscope of summer events celebrating national cultures.

The large cultural program dedicated to the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence and the 25th anniversary of Belarus-India diplomatic relations started in Minsk early this year. Two sculptures of elephants made by modern craftsmen were donated to the Orientalist Art division of the Belarusian National Art Museum in April. Belarusians actively participated in the International Yoga Day in June, and the Day of India was the impressive continuation of the friendly meetings in the cultural and historical center of Minsk.

The celebration organized by the Indian Embassy in Belarus and the Minsk City Hall invited guests to immerse into the atmosphere of India. The welcoming ceremony of worship to Ganesha, harmonious songs and folk dances, yoga workshops, Ayurveda lectures, fairs with goods from India and the tasting of the Indian cuisine dishes and world famous tea... The special guests of the Day of India in Minsk were the dance troupe led by Swati Wangnoo Tiwari and guru of Kuchipudi dance Vimmi Eswar.
