9 Feb 2018

Belarus, last year's Fed Cup finalist, drew the world number six Germany for the Fed Cup World Group quarterfinal, which was held at Chizhovka Arena in Minsk on 10-11 February 2018.

On day one Aryna Sabalenka (World No.63) saw off Tatjana Maria of Germany (58) 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Leader of the Belarusian team Aliaksandra Sasnovich (46) took a confident start but failed to keep up the pace due to health problems and lost the second singles rubber to Antonia Lottner (149) 5-7, 4-6.

On day two Vera Lapko (129) replaced Aliaksadra Sasnovich against German number one Tatjana Maria (58). The Belarusian stood firm in the two first sets. Tatjana Maria, however, managed to secure a solid lead in the third to take a win. Aryna Sabalenka’s confident victory over Antonia Lottner (149) 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 helped Belarus level off the score at 2-2.

The doubles rubber that was to decide the team advancing to the semifinal featured Aryna Sabalenka and Lidziya Marozava vs Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Tatjana Maria. The Belarusians won the first set on a tie break. The Germans tied the score in the second and won the third, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 4-6.
