2017 UIPM Senior Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Minsk

The 2017 UIPM Senior Modern Pentathlon European Championships brought together over 120 athletes from 22 countries in Minsk on 17-24 July. The Minsk event was a dress rehearsal ahead of the UIPM Senior World Championships in Cairo (21-29 August). In 2014 Minsk played host to the UIPM European Junior Championships. In 2015 the Belarusian capital hosted the UIPM Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final.

The competitions were held in the National Olympic Center Ratomka, the cycling ground of Minsk Arena and the swimming pool at the Belarusian State University of Physical Education. The European best athletes competed in show-jumping, fencing, shooting, running and swimming. Among them was Rio 2016 champion Alexander Lesun, who started his career in the Belarusian junior national team, and outstanding Russian pentathlete Gulnaz Gubaydullina, currently ranked second in the world.

Belarusian athletes claimed a number of medals at the 2017 UIPM Senior Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Minsk. Gold in the individual event was clinched by Anastasia Prokopenko. Bronze medals in the relay race went to Tatyana Khaldoba and Yekaterina Orel.

After the Minsk tournament the UIPM representatives made a proposal to hold the 2019 World Student Modern Pentathlon Championships in the Belarusian capital.
