Romanovich brings first Tbilisi 2015 gold to Belarus

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – Hammer thrower Tatiana Romanovich of Belarus won the first gold for her country at the ongoing European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia, BelTA learnt from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

The Belarusian took a confident win in her discipline with the final result of 65.95m, improving her personal record by 3.5 meters.

Belarus has so far won two medals (one gold and one bronze) at the Tbilisi 2015. Vladislav Bulakhov clinched bronze in the long jump with the result of 6.88m.

Belarusian shot-putter Alesya Sokolovich finished 6th with a throw of 15.24m. The same place was taken by discus thrower Dmitry Karpuk (50.32m).

Tbilisi is hosting the European Youth Olympic Festival on 26 July – 1 August 2015. Belarus completes for medals in nine sports: tennis, swimming, artistic gymnastics, track-and-field athletics, judo and cycling.

Partaking in the competitions are over 4,000 athletes under 18 representing 50 countries.

The Belarusian team has comprised 61 athletes and 17 coaches.
