MINSK, 29 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian Foreign Ministry believes that Brussels’ policy of putting more pressure on Belarus is a way to nowhere, Andrei Savinykh, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, told media on 29 February in response to the statement made by Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the day before.
“The European Union’s nervous response to Belarus’ proposal to hold a round of consultations of the ambassadors of the European Union HQ and Poland in their capital cities demonstrates that Brussels has opted for escalating the pressure. It is a way to a dead end,” said Andrei Savinykh.
“People in Brussels and the capital cities of the EU member states should not forget that the tactics of intimidation does not work against Belarus. It is impossible to normalize relations on unilateral conditions, on conditions of pressure,” said the spokesman.
According to Andrei Savinykh, a productive result can be achieved only by a mutually respecting dialogue on mutually acceptable terms. “We hope our partners will understand it,” he added.
