MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – Belarus is a special partner for Russia, said President of Russia Vladimir Putin as he met with Alexander Lukashenko on 31 May.
The Russian head of state said: “It is my first visit outside Russia after I assumed the office of the president. It is natural. Belarus is not just a close partner of ours, it is a special one”.
Vladimir Putin pointed out the success of the two countries in developing trade and economic cooperation. In particular, in 2011 Belarus-Russia trade grew by about 40% to nearly $40 billion. Positive trends continue into 2012. “It is a vivid testimony of the right choice of integration direction,” stressed the President of Russia.
Vladimir Putin thanked Alexander Lukashenko for his active support for integration processes in ex-USSR. The President of Russia said he was ready to discuss the entire range of topical issues on the agenda of the two countries.
