Lukashenko: The Resurrection of Christ helps do good deeds and be charitable

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko sent greetings to Belarusian Christians on the occasion of the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ aka Easter, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

The message reads: “Millions of Christians all over the world celebrate Easter today. Filling hearts with sincere belief in the prevalence of life, the holiday gives hope to all people regardless of their political convictions, ethnic differences, language differences or other sorts. The Resurrection of Christ makes one stop and think about your mission in life. It helps do good deeds and be charitable.”

The president wished warm hearths to Belarusians, love and accord in their families, success in their endeavors, good health, and prosperity. “May the joy of this day attend everyone in matters of spiritual betterment, transforming our lives and inspiring us to do creative work, bringing us closer to high Christian ideals,” stressed Alexander Lukashenko.

Orthodox, Catholic Belarusians celebrate Easter

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – Today Orthodox and Catholic Christians celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.

The Resurrection of Christ is the most important holiday for the entire Christian world. It celebrates the supremacy of light over darkness. It brings great joy and spreads hope for eternal life. Christians believe that after the fall of man souls of all people were denied the ability to return to the kingdom of heaven and were doomed to hell after death. But Jesus Christ, who was crucified and resurrected in the name of mankind, atoned for the original sin and opened the way into heaven for good and godly people.

The holiday is dubbed Easter as a token of continuity with the Old Testament’s holiday when the Jews were freed from Egyptian enslavement. Following the established tradition, the Easter services are performed at night: like ancient Israel that stayed awake on the night of exodus from Egypt, New Israel stays awake on the eve of the Resurrection of Christ.

For 2,000 years Easter is accompanied by holy fire, which inexplicably lights up in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, Israel. Christians from all over the world look forward to the event and believe in the divine origin of this fire. If this fire fails to appear, the fact will be a dreadful omen for the entire mankind.
