Lukashenko, Putin meet in Mogilev

MOGILEV, 12 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting ahead of a plenary session of the 5th Forum of Regions in Mogilev on 12 October, BelTA has learned.

“As we agreed, we have been fulfilling the agreements we made at the beginning of the year,” said the Belarusian leader.

In his words, the current meeting between the presidents of Belarus and Russia is not the final one this year. The presidents are expected to meet as part of the international summits in Astana and Moscow.

Alexander Lukashenko warmly welcomed Vladimir Putin in Mogilev. He noted that this city can be considered Russian as well since it lies in the east of Belarus close to the Russian border. “We are always happy to see you here. A lot has been done for this Forum of Regions. You are always welcome here anytime,” the Belarusian leader said.

For his part, Vladimir Putin thanked the Belarusian head of state for the invitation and the organization of the substantive work during the forum.

He expressed the confidence that the events and meetings of the forum will bring results. Vladimir Putin stressed that the implementation of the agreements reached at the supreme level can be successful only when they are accompanied by efficient work at the regional level. “Direct and efficient contacts are many,” the Russian leader said.

The Russian president hailed Mogilev as a beautiful city and gave credit to the city authorities.
