Lukashenko: EU starts realizing disutility of sanctions

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – The European Union has started realizing the disutility of sanctions against Belarus, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting on foreign policy on 5 April, BelTA has learnt.

According to the head of state, Belarus wants sound cooperation with the European Union. “When they started pressurizing our businessmen, some western countries responded immediately saying that it is not right. In other words, the EU has already realized the disutility of this policy of sanctions. Why would we fight with them? You cannot choose your neighbors. We need to develop relations with them. We will be happy if we have as good relations with the West as we have with the East,” the President said.

“We need to let Europeans know all the time that we are not against rapprochement, but without any pressure or blackmail. It is counterproductive to put the squeeze on us and pressurize us and make us meet their requirements. This is absolutely futile,” Alexander Lukashenko believes.
