MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Azerbaijan have established strong, fundamental relations, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Belarus Isfandiyar Vahabzade on the occasion of the completion of his diplomatic mission in the country, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko believes that the past six years were the most progressive years in the relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan. “In this period we have been laying the foundation of the strong, fundamental relations, and I am grateful to you for it,” the head of state said.
The President also spoke about his recent visit to Baku. “We have returned from Azerbaijan. I believe that Belarus will become your second Motherland because you have been working here for six years. All ambassadors who had been working here for so many years viewed Belarus as their second Motherland,” the Belarusian leader said.
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan, in turn, remarked that during his diplomatic mission he paid special attention to the development of the Belarusian-Azerbaijani cultural ties. In particular, he translated Belarusian classical books to popularize Belarusian literature and culture in Azerbaijan. Such activities promote understanding between the two nations.
