Lukashenko: Azerbaijan can rely on Belarus as the closest friend

BAKU, 28 November (BelTA) – Azerbaijan can rely on Belarus as its closest friend, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during the official one-on-one talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on 28 November, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said that the harmonious blend of the new and old architecture in Baku always impresses him. The President also congratulated Ilham Aliyev on the strong public support for the proposed constitutional changes to increase the presidential term to seven years.

“All you need to do now is to continue moving along the same path and thank the people of Azerbaijan with the successful development of the national economy. You can certainly rely on us as your closest friend. If we can be useful to you in any way, we will always come to help. You know well our capabilities. You are a great friend of Belarus,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

Our cooperation is not aimed against anyone. We are open in discussing the most pressing issues of our time,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The event is held in the residence of the Azerbaijan President Zagulba. The talks were preceded by the ceremony of official welcome for Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on behalf of Ilham Aliyev. The two leaders listened to the national anthems and were welcomed by the guards of honor. After that they began the one-on-one talks. Later they will have extended negotiations.
