Legislation drafted to substantially raise public sector salaries in Belarus

MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has approved the draft resolution of the Council of Ministers on setting the first-class base salary and raising salaries for several categories of workers. The document has been prepared in order to raise public sector salaries and improve monetary remuneration of some public sector workforce categories, the press service of the Belarusian head of state told BelTA.

The document has been prepared in line with the head of state’s instructions to raise the country’s average salary to Br1,000 in 2018 and keep it there. The head of state had also instructed to raise public sector salaries to at least 80% of the country’s average. Instructions had also been cut to gradually double salaries of individual categories of education and healthcare workers in 2018-2025.

The draft Council of Ministers resolution provides for raising salaries for some education and healthcare workforce categories as from 1 September by raising the base salary and bonuses depending on the volume, complexity, and results of the work.

If the resolution comes into force, it will raise the ratio of the public sector average salary to the country’s average salary to at least 80% in Q4 2018. It will raise the average salary of education system workers by 13.5% (up to the ratio of 88%). The average salary of medics will be raised by 19.1% (up to 144%).
