Commemorative service for Maxim Bogdanovich held in All Saints Church in Minsk

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) — A capsule with soil from the grave of Belarusian poet Maxim Bogdanovich in Yalta was laid down in the All Saints Memorial Church in Minsk to mark the 125th anniversary of the poet’s birth on 9 December, BelTA has learned.

The ceremony called “The Return" was held in the crypt of the All Saints Memorial Church.

Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Kochanova read out an address from the Belarusian president on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Maxim Bogdanovich.

Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Kochanova and Belarus Culture Minister Boris Svetlov"The ceremony to burry the capsule with the soil from Maxim Bogdanovich’s grave in Yalta is a symbolic act,” Culture Minister Boris Svetlov remarked. "The poet willed to be buried in Belarus. By taking the soil from the grave of the poet and burying it in his native country we fulfill Maxim Bogdanovich’s will,” the minister added.

Boris Svetlov mentioned that the Maxim Bogdanovich Museum in Minsk has been renovated in anticipation of the anniversary of the poet and a new exhibition has been prepared. The museum will host events to celebrate the anniversary of the poet. "In general, all cultural institutions have taken part in the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of the poet," the minister pointed out.
