MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – Belarus has called on reaching mutual understanding on the multilateral level and abandoning the policy of imposing political and economic development models and cultural preferences. The statement was made by Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei at the General Debate of the UN General Assembly, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
The Belarusian Foreign Minister set forth Belarus’ major approaches to international cooperation and the role of the United Nations in the process. Vladimir Makei noted that this year Belarus marked the 70th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. He spoke against the attempts to revise the results of the Second World War and to diminish the role of victory over Nazism.
Vladimir Makei urged to address international issues by creating global partnerships with the participation of governments, international organizations and civil society. Belarus believes that the UN could use this approach to revolve pressing issues, like the negative impact of globalization, inequality, poverty, climate change, energy consumption, food security, water resources and others. Belarus uses these uniting approaches to highlight the agenda related to the efforts to combat human trafficking and strengthen the traditional family.
Vladimir Makei expressed hope that by the next UN summit next year, the international community will be able to cement progress in addressing such topical issues as conflict prevention and resolution and international sustainable development.
