Belarus, Russia make joint statement on Victory Day anniversary in UN

Belarus, Russia make joint statement on Victory Day anniversary in UN

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia, supported by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War at the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The statement notes a special importance of the Victory Day for the people of our countries who have made a decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazism and suffered the greatest human and material losses, and also pays tribute to the memory of all those killed on the battlefields and to all Nazism victims,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The Minsitry of Foreign Affairs noted that the Human Rights Council's attention was drawn to the inadmissibility of the attempts to ignore the lessons of the war, give a distorted moral and legal evaluation of its outcomes. "The glorification of Nazism and the resuscitation of the ideology of fascism lead to the spread of intolerance, discrimination, extremism and hatred on ethnic, racial and religious grounds. All the countries and peoples of the world must fight these threats in order to prevent new tragedies and to maintain peace and security for the generations to come,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
