MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – The prestigious international beauty contest will take place in Minsk on 27 September. It is organized by the World Beauty Organization in association with the Belarusian TV channel ONT.
Aspirants from 60 countries arrived in Belarus on 10-13 September. They took part in a press conference for mass media on 14 September.
From 15 to 20 September the girls traveled around Belarus, admiring historical monuments in Grodno, going underground in Soligorsk shafts, getting familiar with national traditions of Belarus and showing theirs in the tourist center Dudutki. After that they were in for rehearsal time.
25 September will see the winner crown revealed in Minsk’s Palace of the Republic. It is a fine piece of jewelry made of platinum and embellished with 720 diamonds worth over $360,000.
The beauty contest will end in Minsk’s football manege on 27 September. The show will be hosted by brothers Dmitry and Georgy Kolduns and world-famous beauty Yekaterina Domankova. Tickets are available at 48 box offices throughout the city for Br60,000-400,000. Most of them have been sold already.
The contest Miss Intercontinental 2009 is also attractive for Eurovision stars. This year’s Eurovision winner Alexander Rybak, winner of Eurovision 2008 Dima Bilan, Arash, who represented Azerbaijan together with beautiful Aysel at Eurovision 2009 and took the third position, will also take part in the finals as song performers. The music band Morandi from Romania and Lou Bega are also expected to perform.
Not only Miss Intercontinental 2009 will be chosen in Minsk. The first and second vice misses will be named as well. All in all, six titles will be awarded, namely Miss Intercontinental Europe, Miss Intercontinental Asia, Miss Intercontinental Africa, Miss Intercontinental North America, Miss Intercontinental South America, Miss Intercontinental Australia and Oceania.
There are also special awards in store for “The best national costume”, “The best evening dress”, and “The best figure”.
Miss Photogenic will be named by TV viewers after portfolios of all the beauties have been posted on the website of the TV channel ONT. Miss Friendship will be named by the very participants of the contest.
The Belarusian aspirant to the crown of Miss Intercontinental 2009 is Maria Yesman, 20, from Minsk. She is a law student at the Belarusian State University. She finished a music school in violin class, has been practicing ballroom dancing for ten years and has won many contests.
Last year Belarusian beauty Lyubov Yakovina became Second Vice Miss Intercontinental 2008 as well as Miss Intercontinental Europe.
The international beauty contest Miss Intercontinental has been held since 1971 and is one of the five most prestigious contests.
