MINSK, 9April (BelTA) – A ceremony of raising the national flag of Belarus in the Olympic Village for the London 2012 Olympics will be held on 22 July at 20h00 Minsk time. This statement was made during a regular meeting of a working group for preparation to the Olympics, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Sports and Tourism Ministry.
The meeting of the working group was held under the chairmanship of chief of the Belarusian mission at the 30th Olympic Games in London, Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Nereda. Taking part in the meeting were also Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Georgy Katulin, chairman of the national team directorate of the Sports and Tourism Ministry Andrei Fomochkin, director of Belsportobespechenie Alexander Borovski and staff of the National Olympic Committee and the Sports and Tourism Ministry.
The meeting clarified the schedule of furnishing information to the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games about Belarusian sportsmen and the schedule of flights of the officials, athletes, coaches, medical staff and media representatives to London. The meeting also discussed some issues concerning accommodation of the Belarusian team in the Olympic Village and organization of cooperation with the Belarusian Embassy in Great Britain.
The 30th Summer Olympic Games will be held in London on 27 July – 12 August. London will become the first city which will host the Olympics for the third time. The Games were previously held in London in 1908 and 1948. More than 10,000 sportsmen from 204 countries are expected to take part in the Olympics.
The London 2012 Olympics are the 10th Olympics for sovereign Belarus including the Winter Olympic Games.
Belarusian athletes are expected to win 25 medals in London, 5 of which should be gold. Belarus will pay the prize money for the Olympic medals as follows – for gold, $75,000 – for silver and $50,000 – for bronze.
