Belarus’ Daughter of the Pripyat wins Magnificat 2014 Grand Prix

MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian documentary Daughter of the Pripyat won the Grand Prix of the international Catholic festival of Christian films and TV programs Magnificat 2014, BelTA learnt from the organizers of the film forum.

Igor Byshnev’s Daughter of the Pripyat, shot in 2012 (Belarusian Video Center), tells about the life of an old woman that lives near the Pripyat River.

The festival featured 43 movies from 16 countries. 28 pictures were awarded. Special awards went to three films. The documentary Get Up and Go (ZAraZ Studio, Belarus) got a special award from the twin-town festival Niepokalanow (Poland).

The Magnificat festival is the review of the works of Belarusian and foreign cinema and TV masters aimed at the evangelization of the society, the support of universal human values of different Christian traditions. The forum was first held in 2005. The festival is held under the patronage of the Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops of Belarus. It was established by the Roman Catholic association Signis-Belarus, the Stop Kadr studio, the Vitebsk Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church and the Dialogue magazine.
