MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) - Belarus continues to call for the speedy resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said when speaking at the international conference “One Year of Minsk-II Accords: Achievements, Challenges, Lessons Learned”, BelTA has learned.
According to the minister, the Belarusian side has always advocated the resolution of conflicts in a civilized manner, at the negotiating table, without resorting to military force, without exerting political and economic pressure. “We have had to deal with a policy of sanctions and restrictions on the part of our partners and we have always stated that such approaches are unconstructive and bring negative consequences,” Vladimir Makei said.
He stressed that Minsk-1 and Minsk-2 have been made possible thanks to the willingness of all parties involved to sit down at the negotiating table. "Those have been difficult but essential first steps to resolve the situation," said the minister.
Vladimir Makei expressed the view that the dynamics of the modern events shows that to resolve a conflict it is equally important to be able to continue the dialogue, however difficult it may be sometimes.
