Belarus clinches gold at 16th FAI World Helicopter Championship

MINSK, 24 July (BelTA) – Belarusian pilots have clinched the first gold of the 16th FAI World Helicopter Championship which is underway in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The crew of the Vitebsk aeroclub won in the parallel fender rigging event. The champion title went to Vadimir Bugayev and Andrei Rogonov. Silver was collected by Russia (Maksim Sotnikov and Oleg Puodzhukas), with bronze taken by another Belarusian crew (Nikita Laptev and Vladislav Kurs).

Russian crews graced the podium in the parallel precision flying event. Belarus’ Alexander Grishchenko and Oleg Manko finished sixth. Poland placed above Belarus.

Taking part in the competitions are 37 crews from different countries. Russia has deployed 13 crews. Pilots from Poland, Austria, Germany, China and Ukraine also compete for medals. National teams perform on Mi-2 and Robinson-44 helicopters.

The annual aviation festival # PRONEBO will be held as part of the championship on 28-29 July. Visitors will see more than 30 aircraft, including balloons to airplanes. Helicopter racing will be one of the most spectacular events of the festival.
