MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – By 2015 Belarus should be one of the 30 countries with the most developed information and communication technologies, said Information Technologies and Communications Minister Nikolai Pantelei.

The Belarusian IT industry is developing fast and is an important part of the national economy. According to the International Telecommunication Union and the United Nations Organization Belarus has achieved impressive results developing communications, the information society and telecommunication technologies, said the Minister. In 2010 Belarus landed at the 52nd position in the IT development rating of the International Telecommunication Union. Between 2008 and early 2012 Belarus moved from the 84th position to the 48th one in the UN telecommunication infrastructure development rating.

“As part of the national program for accelerated development of IT services we strive to advance the information and communication infrastructure, the electronic government, electronic healthcare, electronic education, and development of the human capital,” added Nikolai Pantelei.

The Minister congratulated industry workers on the Radio, Television, and Communications Day. He thanked everyone for their productive labor and selflessness and wished them holiday mood, peace, success at work, and prosperity.
