Agreement on staging 2013 EUBC Men’s European Championship in Minsk signed

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – On 14 February the Minsk Town Hall hosted a ceremony of signing the agreement on staging the 2013 EUBC Men’s European Championship in Minsk. The event will be held at the Minsk Palace of Sports from 30 May to 9 June 2013, BelTA learned.

The signing ceremony was attended by President of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) Franco Falcinelli, Minister of Sport and Tourism Alexander Shamko, Chairman of the Minsk City Council Nikolai Ladutko, and Chairman of the Belarusian Boxing Federation Dmitry Tikhomolov.

President of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) Franco Falcinelli thanked the Belarusian hosts for the hospitality and expressed confidence that the tournament will be organized at the highest level: “Belarus has good traditions in boxing since the times of the Soviet Union. Boxing is popular in Belarus, and I am sure the European Championship will draw a lot of spectators. The Palace of Sports, which has been chosen the main arena of championship, meets all the requirements. The infrastructure is compact. Near the Palace of Sports there are a lot of hotels which can accommodate participating athletes. I also want to thank the Minsk City Council and the Ministry of Sports and Tourism for the financial support of the event.”

The right to host the EUBC Men’s European Boxing Championship was awarded to Belarus at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the European Boxing Confederation last year. The Belarusian application received the majority of votes. Originally the tournament was to be held in mid-May but was subsequently postponed to 30 May-9 June. The event will feature top athletes from all over Europe, including world champions and Olympic prize winners.
