Moscow hosts presentation of Belarus’ war museums

MOSCOW, 8 October (BelTA) – The presentation of three Belarusian museums took place at the Russian Military Historical Society in Moscow on 8 October, BelTA has learned.

The multimedia presentation was held by Director of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War Nikolai Kobelev, Director of the Brest Fortress Memorial Grigory Bysyuk and Director of the historical and cultural complex Stalin’s Line Alexander Metla. They told the stories of the foundation of their museums, museums' funds and research activities.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko noted in his speech that Belarus has been consistently following its state policy in preserving the historical memory. “Museums play an important role here. They are designed to tell the truth, help in the education of new generations,” said the diplomat.

The participants of the event discussed further cooperation between the museums of Belarus and Russia, the organization of joint exhibitions and excursion programs. In particular, in 2016 there are plans for a scientific conference to mark the 75th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War as well as the preparation of Belarusian and Russian scientists for the third part of the joint fundamental work “The Country in Flames. 1944-1945”.
