Guo Yu: Belarusian and Chinese people fought shoulder to shoulder against aggressors in WWII

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) - Belarusian and Chinese soldiers fought shoulder to shoulder against the aggressors in World War II, Charge d'Affaires of China to Belarus Guo Yu said during a ceremony to open the photo exhibition “Belarus and China: Milestones of Military Brotherhood" in the House of Friendship on 2 September, BelTA has learned.

The photo exhibition is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. According to Guo Yu, on the occasion of the solemn celebration of the Great Victory, the People's Republic of China is holding the anniversary celebrations. On 3 September Beijing held an official military parade which was attended by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and heads of other states.

"The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Belarus and the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and the Belarus-China friendship society have arranged this exhibition for the joint celebration of the 70th anniversary of Victory. During the Second World War, China was one of the most important members of the anti-fascist coalition. The Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression became the longest and brought the biggest number of victims, having played a big role in the outcome of the war. The struggle of the Chinese people on the eastern front made a tremendous historical contribution to the Victory over fascism in World War II,” said the Chinese diplomat.

In his opinion, in order to draw lessons from history, look openly to the future, not to allow the repeat of the tragedy and to preserve lasting peace all over the world, it is important to keep the memory of the historical past, to cease enmity and prevent the attempts by warmongers to deny the crimes committed in the past or revise the history.

Guo Yu continued: "The Second World War was a great tragedy for all humanity. Belarus also suffered big losses. The Chinese side highly appreciates the contribution of Belarus to the victory in the world anti-fascist war. During the war the Belarusian people demonstrated the spirit of heroism and incurable courage, winning the appreciation of the international community. We will never forget how in the most difficult moments the Belarusian military fought shoulder to shoulder with Chinese soldiers and officers against the Japanese aggressors, how the friendship of our peoples was born in bloody battles.”

The Chinese diplomat drew attention to the fact that the modern world is not calm and faces many challenges on a daily basis. Guo Yu pledged that China will resolutely defend the victory in the Second World War and the world order that was established after the war, unswervingly follow the peaceful path of development, maintain friendly relations and cooperation with all countries of the world, including Belarus, support each other in peace development for the joint benefit of each state, together create a wonderful future of consent and prosperity for all mankind.

For his part, Chairman of the Belarus-China Friendship Society Anatoly Tozik said that the struggle of the Belarusian and Chinese peoples during the war, support for each other is part of the shared history. “We must not forget that China lost 35 million people in the war of resistance against the aggressors, which lasted for eight years. Lessons of war must not be forgotten,” said Anatoly Tozik.

Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Council of Veterans Mikhail Zhukovsky also spoke about the importance of preserving the memory of the lessons of the war.

Chairperson of the Presidium of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Nina Ivanova stressed that the exhibition features the photographs of the war years and depict the real events during the war of resistance of the Chinese people against the aggressors. The photos for the exhibition were provided by the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War.
