Opinion: Belarus is strengthening its position in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

MINSK,  9 July (BelTA) – Belarus is strengthening its position in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Sergei Rakhmanov, Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, a member of the Belarusian delegation at the 26th OSCE PA Annual Session, told the media on 9 July.

“We have created a platform that will enable us to consolidate and strengthen Belarus’ position, which we will surely do,” Sergei Rakhmanov stressed.

He noted that the decision not to include the resolution on the situation in Eastern Europe in the Minsk Declaration was a victory of common sense. Earlier during the session, the parliamentarians also decided not to include the resolution on the Belarusian nuclear power plant on the agenda. Sergei Rakhmanov believes that was achieved thanks to the consolidated position of all stakeholders. Many OSCE parliamentarians took a different look at the situation after the visit to Belarus. “The way how Belarus hosted the forum played an important role,” Sergei Rakhmanov said. The leadership of the OSCE PA and participants of the session repeatedly praised the high level of organization of the event and thanked Belarus for the hospitality and good conditions for work.

The session culminated with the adoption of the Minsk Declaration on 9 July.
