Capralos: Minsk 2019 European Games venues 'nearly ready'

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) - Sports facilities in Minsk are in a high degree of readiness for the Second European Games, Spyros Capralos, the Chair of the EOC Coordination Commission, said during the 46th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees which began in Zagreb (Croatia), BelTA has learned.

Spyros Capralos briefed the General Assembly members, among whom is President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, on the sports on the program of the Minsk sport forum in June 2019, the Tokyo Olympics qualification program. Spyros Capralos also informed about the expenditures on the preparation and conduct of the European Games, spoke about the marketing rights. The EOC Coordination Commission already visited Minsk, and I would like to note that the sports facilities of the Belarusian capital, infrastructure are in a high degree of readiness, except for Stadium Dinamo which will host the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics competitions. The reconstruction is on schedule. There is no doubt that it will be completed on time,” Spyros Capralos said.

The Belarusian delegation led by Director of the Fund of the 2019 Second European Games Directorate Georgy Katulin showcased the games’ logo and motto Bright Year, Bright You and provided detailed information on the sport program, accommodation for athletes and officials. The report of the Belarusian delegation also touched upon the promotional campaign of the upcoming games. The organizing committee will decide on the European Games ticket operator in February 2018. Ticket sales will be launched in April. “A lot of volunteers are showing interest in helping the Second European Games happen. Over 8,000 volunteers have been registered so far,” noted Anatoly Kotov, Deputy Director of the Fund of the 2019 Second European Games Directorate.

Belarus was chosen to host the Second European Games in 2019 at the 45th session of the EOC General Assembly in Minsk in October 2016. The Second European Games in Minsk will be taking place on 21-30 June 2019. The Games will feature 15 sports: badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, wrestling(freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women’s wrestling), cycling (track cycling and road bicycle racing), gymnastics (artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, aerobics, and trampoline), rowing (kayak and canoe competitions), judo, karate, track and field athletics, sambo, archery, shooting (including clay target shooting), table tennis, and beach football. 189 medals events will be held in 23 sport disciplines.
