The wider Minsk region, in the heart of Belarus, is the largest in the country, and home to 1.5 million people.
It is highly industrialised, with over 3,423 companies covering a vast range of the economy, including petrochemical, machine-building, metal-working, food processing, forestry, wood processing, pulp-and-paper and light industries.
Minsk Oblast generates more than 15% of the national industrial output, including all its potassium fertiliser, 80% of metal products, and 44.9% of knitwear. It is also home to the country’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, Borimed, and mining truck manufacturer BelAZ.
