Union State MPs to discuss Belarus-Russia environmental policy

MOSCOW, 23 October (BelTA) – Environmental problems and ways to solve them in the Belarus-Russia Union State will be discussed at the 50th session of the permanent workshop at the Union State Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Russia’s Bryansk from 1 to 2 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.

“The workshop is designed to discuss the Union State environmental policy and the legal aspects of forming a single legal space in Belarus-Russia environmental management, consider the effective use of natural resources and the rehabilitation of areas affected by radioactive pollution,” the press service said. “The participants are set to study issues regarding the health of people living in Belarus’ and Russia’s areas with unfavorable ecological conditions, including those affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The participants will come up with possible ways to enhance the rehabilitation system and medical services provided to various categories of the population affected,” the press service noted.

During the visit to Bryansk, the Union State MPs are expected to meet with the Bryansk Oblast governor and top executives of the Bryansk Oblast Duma. They will also hold a session of the Parliamentary Assembly’s Commission on Environment, Nature Management, and Accident Management, and learn more about the work of Bryansk State Agricultural Academy together with the workshop’s participants.

Taking part in the workshop will be members of the Parliamentary Assembly, representatives of the Union State Standing Committee, Belarusian and Russian ministries and departments, the Bryansk Oblast government, the Bryansk Oblast Duma, mass media, and also experts and scientists of Belarus’ and Russia’s leading universities.

The permanent workshop at the Union State PA was organized on the initiative of the Union State MPs in 2006. The workshop traditionally brings together scientists and supporters of Belarus-Russia integration sharing the same approached to the Union State construction. The event’s format helps review topical matters of Belarus-Russia cooperation in detail.
