MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) jointly with the UK Embassy is considering the possibilities of providing financial support to the juvenile justice program in Belarus, Lionel Blackman, solicitor from England, Chairman of the Solicitors International Human Rights Group, sessional lecturer at London Bank South University, said at the meeting with representatives of the Belarusian National Bar Association, BelTA has learned.
The project envisages courses to train judges and investigators at the Institute of Retraining and Qualification Upgrading of Judges, Prosecutors, and Legal Professionals at the Belarusian State University, and defense counselors at the second stage of the program. The specialist was interested, first of all, in the readiness of Belarusian lawyers to take part in the project.
Chairman of the Belarusian National Bar Association Viktor Chaichits believes that Belarusian lawyers are ready for training and added that the program could be more efficient if conducted jointly and in the format of a discussion.
The parties agreed to decide on the format and the period of training in the near future.
