UNCTAD to evaluate Belarus’ anti-monopoly law

MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – Experts of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will assess the revised version of the law on combating monopoly and promoting competition. Such an arrangement was reached at a meeting between Belarusian Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Minister Vladimir Koltovich and head of UNCTAD's Competition Policy and Consumer Protection Branch Teresa Moreira, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry.

UNCTAD's experts will review the law to establish whether it is in accord with the world’s competition standards. “This will allow posturing Belarus as a country that builds economic relations on the basis of competition and equal terms of market access. This will also allow utilizing international expertise and knowledge and the world’s best anti-monopoly practices to investigate violations in the field of competition,” the Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry said.

The revised version of the law on combating monopoly and promoting competition will be in effect from August 2018.

A delegation of the Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry took part in the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy under the aegis of UNCTAD.
