Talks on Ukraine resume in Minsk

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – The talks promoting peace settlement in Ukraine have resumed in Minsk, BelTA learned from the Twitter account of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BelTA has learned.

“The working groups on Ukraine have resumed talks ahead of a meeting of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine in Minsk,” the ministry informed.

The trilateral contact group last met in the Belarusian capital on 4 October. Martin Sajdik, the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine, stated that in the period since the latest negotiations the number of ceasefire violations in the conflict zone has remained considerably lower than the number registered before the ceasefire was enforced on the occasion of the new academic year. Thanks to the latest armistice and ‘the harvest armistice’, which the trilateral contact group on Ukraine agreed at the beginning of the summer, the number of civilian casualties has been dropping steadily and noticeably since June. According to the UN data, September saw the lowest number of civilian victims on record — two dead and 16 injured.

“Unfortunately, we cannot say that the overall situation in the conflict zone is stable, this is why the trilateral contact group on Ukraine will continue doing its utmost to secure the timeless ceasefire regime in the future,” stressed the OSCE special representative.
